In an environment as elegant as Bruno’s, where a lush mural of Italian vineyards covers the north wall, pizza doesn’t seem like the most obvious dish choice – but this stylish Old World restaurant’s most popular feature is its gourmet toppings. The surprises don’t stop there; Bruno’s is a jumble of juxtapositions. Provided you don’t have to spend the rest of the evening deep in conversation, try the garlic pizza, which comes topped with whole roasted cloves as soft as butter and honey-sweet. Coupled with one of Bruno’s excellent wines, you’ll believe pizza can be dignified. Bruno’s dining room is intimate, though the close quarters can be less appealing when all the tables are full, as is often the case on weekends. The attentive service contributes to the comfortable atmosphere, and after finishing your generous portions (if you can; to-go boxes are Bruno’s second most popular feature), the floor-to-ceiling windows at the front of the restaurant allow for great people-watching on one of downtown Springfield’s main thoroughfares.

Christmas Party

Reviewed by greg on December 21, 2006

"The company I work for (gusto!) held its 2006 Christmas Party here and we all had a great time. There was plenty of room for us upstairs in the bar area where we mingled and had drinks. Appetizers were served in one of the private dining areas near the upstairs bar. Everyone at the party was allowed to sample all of Brunos large assortment of appetizers which included various pizzas, breads. All in all a very enjoyable evening. Click here to see a picture if my wife and I enjoying the evening."

Nice Italian

Reviewed by TravelQueen on October 20, 2006

TravelQueen's rating:

"We went here for our anniversary (which my husband forgot). It was good. Although I have to agree with the prior review it was spicy. We had a red sauce pasta that was wonderful, but spicy. I also had the best peach drink I have ever had. They said they boiled water and sugar and peaches all day to make it. It was wonderful. Called Peach Fizz I believe. We also had the Chocolate Lava dessert. The best part of the meal of course was that sinful dessert."

Allen

Spicy menu?

Reviewed by Allen on May 16, 2006

Allen's rating:

"I love how downtown Springifled has matured during the past several years. One thing that makes this evident are the small boutique restaurants like this one that have opened up in the downtown area. Good atmosphere. Typical menu of Italian fare. The bar upstairs looks neat (the ‘upstairs bartender’ was sick the night we were there, so the upstairs was closed), and if you can get a window seat by the sidewalk you can watch the downtown Springfield nightlife scene. I tried the Shrimp Diablo. You’d expect the dish to be hot given the name, so I asked how hot. Seven on a scale of 1-10 our waiter said. I asked if the chef could tone it down to a 5 which they did, and thank goodness – I should’ve asked for a 2, it was still too hot to eat. My friend tried a speciality pizza which was also very spicy. If you like spicy hot Italian – good pick. Recommend to a friend? Probably not, unless they like hot Italian. Would I go back? Yeah, I might try the pasta. Atmosphere: 8 on a scale of 1-10. Nice, quiant, new and clean. Staff: Our server knew all 10 specials by memory; staff generally seemed well oiled and organized, but it was only a Tuesday night."
