More than a Musem!

"Climbing, hiding, exploring, crawling, sliding, tunneling – these are not verbs you associate with a “regular” museum. However, they are the activities you will find at the City Museum. There really is now way to describe this place, The best description I have used is “imagine if two 12 year old kids had enough money to build a huge clubhouse.” That’s essentially what the City Museum is. In today’s structured world – kids love this. Everywhere you go you have to tell your kids – don’t touch, don’t walk away, don’t do this, don’t go there. Not here. If you can see it, you can touch it. If you can fit in – you are allowed in. Parents – get in shape, wear long pants and even consider kneepads."

"The City Museum is so much fun. There are trees to climb through, slides to go down and tunnels underground to squeeze through. If that’s not your thing, then you can check out the world’s largest pair of underpants. This is such a unique place hidden in the city of St. Louis. Well worth checking out."

"This place is awesome. The whole place is made up of recycled stuff from cities around St. Louis, etc. Just go to their website to get a better idea of what the City Museum is all about (http://www.citymuseum.org). Our family of 5 went here and spent a very active and enjoyable 5 hours. You could easily spend a whole day here but come prepared to climb and explore. If you are a safety nut you might be a little worried at the lack of safety measures (there are exposed metal wires, sharp edges, no padding under swings, wide gaps on some of the open air slinky like climbing exhibits, etc.) but if you have kids older than 3 you will be in good shape to enjoy all of the exploring options. I would highly recommend wearing long pants and tennis shoes since sandals and shorts would make exploring difficult and uncomfortable. Also ladies, leave purses in the car unless you are merely going to be a spectator, lugging stuff around would not be fun here. This place is also easy to lose your kid in so you should probably bring a cell phone and a friend if you are bringing a small child that you want to keep eyes on at all times. My wife and I split up when the kids went on things like the monster slide that goes from the third floor to the first so we could keep eyes on our kids. We used our cell phones at least 4 times to find each other, this place was a shoe factory and it’s huge. The fact that everything is recycled is almost overshadowed by the fact that there is so much cool stuff to do. If you go be sure to check out the architectural museum too (FREE), it’s fascinating. The only reason I didn’t rate this 100 was because of a few safety concerns, personal injury lawyers probably drool when they go through this place and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a few ambulance chasers hanging out in the parking lot, lol."
