Bio
- My headline
- Music makes the world go 'round
- Me in a nutshell
I’ve been in and around the music business for over 15 years. I used to work for a large music conglomerate until my soul died and I was spit forth in a great wad of angst and severance money. I bounced back, though; I now own an independent record store in my hometown of Memphis, and I occasionally play in a band with a group of friends. I’ve always liked to do my own thing, which explains a lot about my personality and lifestyle choices, such as …
- Things I like
I believe variety really is the spice of life. I prefer avant-garde jazz to anything on the radio. I salute the Salvation Army and snub The Gap. I opt for dimly lit art galleries to perfectly manicured strip malls and corporate chains. I tend to keep a lot of magazines around — Spin, The Economist, Esquire (I’m an info junkie). I dream of beating Keith Richards in a drinking contest, fighting the good fight, and of one day living in a world without “American Idol.” When I travel, I sniff out the locals-only, off-the-beaten-path places (independent bookstores, quirky museums, unique restaurants). I’ll book a room at one of those affordable boutique hotels in the eclectic area of town. I always visit the cutting-edge art galleries, one where I might find an original Basquiat or a Bruce Nauman exhibit. In the evenings (until the wee hours of the morning sometimes), you can always find me at a rock club, checking out a band I know or some new group on the local music scene. You get the picture.
