Fremont, seat of Dodge County in eastern Nebraska, is 33 miles northwest of Omaha. With 23,680 people, it is the state’s sixth-largest city. Fremont is the birthplace of Harold Edgerton (1903-90), an American engineer and inventor who revolutionized high-speed photography with his electronic stroboscope.
The Louis May Historical Museum is a Victorian mansion that includes an 1868 log house, living history demonstrations, and re-created rooms of the nineteenth century. Visitors to Fremont can ride in vintage rail cars to investigate the Fremont and Elkhorn Valley Railroad, which takes in 15 miles of lush river valley, and the historic town of Hooper. Fremont State Recreation Area offers 20 sandpit lakes, fishing, swimming, boating, camping, and picnicking.
Fremont is at the intersection of Hwy 30 and Hwy 77. There is also bus, train, and air service to the city.
