Omaha is one of America’s most underestimated vacation destinations. This truly modern city boasts architectural delights, a thoroughly developed art district and a renowned zoo. Shopping enthusiasts should waste no time in getting to Omaha’s Old Market. Located downtown between Farnam and Jones Streets, the Old Market is a consumer’s dream. Scattered among the upscale clothing boutiques and fantastic antique stores, you’ll also find co-op galleries and the Omaha Contemporary Arts Center.
Old Market is also host to many of the city’s best restaurants and taverns. V Mertz restaurant, for instance, is a romantic Omaha favorite that serves Continental fare with some Mediterranean influences. M’s Pub is another Omaha staple; it feels like a European cafe and has a small but nicely varied menu. You’ll also find several excellent spots for steaks in Omaha; Gorat’s, in Midtown, is Warren Buffet’s favorite, and he’s been known to take Bill Gates to dinner there.
June in Omaha means one thing: College World Series. Every year, this city is an enthusiastic host to the best college teams in the nation as they chase the national title. Omaha is also home to the renowned Henry Doorly Zoo. The zoo’s excellent indoor habitats, including the world’s largest indoor rainforest, make it a great place to visit year-round; the Hubbard Gorilla Valley switches that concept, confining humans to indoor tunnels that meander through a massive outdoor habitat. A world-class attraction featuring exotic animals and unique entertainment, the Henry Doorly Zoo is ideal for visitors of all ages.
