The intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Flamingo Road is the heart and soul of the city. Here, Bugsy Siegel’s dream took shape and became Flamingo Las Vegas in 1946. This U-shaped hotel shelters 15 acres of tropical palms and pools in its center, complete with waterfalls, lagoons, and of course, flamingos. The recently remodeled rooms offer upscale comfort with a Caribbean feel – cheerful peaches and greens, dark wood, and tropical art prints on the walls. All the resort standards are offered here as well (salon, spa, golf, pools, etc.). A large draw, however, is the inclusion of the best place in Vegas to celebrate the fact that it’s five o’clock somewhere. Margaritaville is Jimmy Buffet’s grand entertainment and dining venue that is at once a restaurant, bar, retail outlet, and live music mecca. You don’t have to be a parrothead to enjoy Margaritaville, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt. One of the best things about the nautical-themed restaurant at Margaritaville is the affordable menu. Choose a grilled sirloin steak drizzled with pineapple run sauce, or go tropical with blackened mahi mahi with Jerk barbecue sauce. The desserts are spectacular, and if you can’t make it all the way through the three-quarter pound chocolate cake, don’t feel bad. Whereas proper attire (no T-shirts, sandals, hats, etc.) is required in many other restaurants on the Strip, proper attire at Margaritaville consists of exactly those items banned at other fine restaurants. If you want to enjoy a good meal in your flip flops and shorts, Margaritaville is the place for you.
