The Luxor pyramid might not house the wealth of ancient Egypt, but this 30-story glass pyramid contains treasures of a different nature. There are no solid gold sarcophagi here, but the grandeur and opulence would likely have earned a pharaoh’s seal of approval. The Egyptian motif is carried throughout the decor, down to the the furnishings in each room. Scarabs, ankhs and other immediately recognizable Egyptian characters keep you feeling as though you’re in the kingdom of the Nile. At Luxor, ancient meets modern in style and function. Instead of elevators, they have "inclinators" that take you up the steep slope of the pyramid to your room. The enormous atrium houses a replica of Ramses II’s temple at Abu Simbel, and you can also visit a replica of Tutankhamun’s tomb (this is the only life-size replica outside of Egypt, amazingly enough). The scale of the Luxor is incredible; everything seems to be as big and grand as possible. The light beam projected from the top of the pyramid, for example, is the brightest in the world. Because of the theme and the aforementioned attractions, kids are easily entertained (and even educated).

Love the Luxor!

Reviewed by ladyjava on June 25, 2008

ladyjava's rating:

"Hubby and I stay here about 3 times a year. We love the Pyramid Cafe and Fusia. The rooms are large, quiet, clean, and we usually have a good view out the window. The casino area can be a bit confusing to get around, but, again, it is clean. We also love the Egyptian theme, easy access to other casinos, and the friendly people!!"

Great Room, not so great casino

Reviewed by moonchyld1 on February 14, 2007

moonchyld1's rating:

"While the room we stayed in was awesome (a spa suite in the Pyramid), the casino leaves something to be desired. The design and concept is great, but it appears the attention to small details stops when you hit the casino floor. If I ever stayed here again, I wouldn’t spend a lot of time here. It’s inconveniently located at the far end of the strip, so if you are like me, and enjoy casino hopping, be prepared for a lot of walking or many cab rides."

ride the Inclinators--elevators that move at an angle

Reviewed by ohsostrange on January 15, 2007

ohsostrange's rating:

"I always spend at least half a day here, every time I go to Vegas. They have the King Tut’s tomb exhibit, an exceptionally nice Imax theater, a “4-D” movie attraction that’s really cute, some motion rides, a good food court, a nice buffet, and you can walk out between their Sphinx’s paws to take the free monorail to Mandalay Bay. The resort began life as a salute to tackiness, then they brought in a new CEO who wanted it to become something along the lines of the Bellagio-which was impossible. So now it’s mired somewhere in between, a mixture of gleefully gaudy tackiness and snooty upper-crust pretentions. Which somehow just makes it that much more ridiculous and even more fun."

Great Atmosphere and Location

Reviewed by jwcorney on December 22, 2006

jwcorney's rating:

"Luxor is the perfect middle ground casino. Built toward the end of Las Vegas’s “Family Friendly” cyle. This casino has a completely unique interior and strong Egyptian motif where many other casinos can start to look alike. (i.g. Bellagio/Wynn, Ceasars/Venetian, New York/Paris). Although not a “high class casino” Luxor does not cater to the kiddies, but could probably place it right at the target range of 20 somethings having fun in Vegas. The food at Luxor is terrific. Obviously a focus by the casino’s management. With three top tier restaurants: The Steakhouse at Luxor, The Sacred Sea Room, and ISIS. (I do not include Fusia the asian inspired restaurant because I wasn’t a big fan) Two midrange resaturants: The Pyramid Cafe, and La Salsa. A hot food deli. A buffet. Two Coffee bars and a full food court including Swenson’s Ice cream, Little Ceasar’s Pizza, Mcdonald’s. etc. I have eaten at every restaurant listed here and am vouching for their quality (Fusia is tasty, but not a great value). Location can’t be beat either, internally connected to the Mandalay Bay, and The Excalibur, you have the full range of what Vegas has to offer, from Midway games at the Excalibur to fine dining, clubs, shopping, and an aquarium at Mandalay Bay / Mandalay Place. And if you let yourself step outside you have access to New York New York, and MGM (you can leave the Tropicana off of your list too). Luxor is an excellent midrange Hotel/Casino."

Gambling at best

Reviewed by lrintex on December 11, 2006

lrintex's rating:

"Does anyone else like the slots? I do. They have lots to choose from. There is never any waiting after 3am for a machine. You get to pick and choses as you like. That is normally the time I have seen them adding change or taking it out. Whatever it is they do."

Luxor Las Vegas

"The hotel was really cool inside with slanted walls. The Luxor also has some neat attractions in 3D, etc. Their spa is pretty good too. The buffet is really nice and reasonably priced compared to others."

Tacky but fun

Reviewed by Anonymous on June 26, 2006

Anonymous' rating:

"This over-the-top hotel is delightfully garish in every way, with a massive sphinx by the entrance and enormous, tacky replicas of Egyptian sculptures in the soaring interior. My fiance and I saw the “Showgirls”-espe revue here, but it was kind of disappointing. I was hoping for Nomi Malone, but no dice."
