Mandalay Bay’s golden towers rise majestically from a fringe of palm trees like the lost city of El Dorado. The conquistadors never cashed in, but you can. Visitors with or without kids give high marks to the blissfully understated decor. Only small, tasteful touches reflect the colonial theme, such as plantation shutters and the occasional animal print. Bathrooms are large with sunken jacuzzi tubs, glassed showers, and his-and-her sinks. Shark Reef brings you face to face with the apex predator of the ocean. You journey through a fabulous sunken temple and undersea grottoes, exploring habitats that house some of the most interesting and bizarre animals in all of nature. Check out the incredible camouflage, rows of razor-sharp teeth, and surprising intelligence that gets these animals through the day without becoming someone else’s dinner. If the sharks don’t scare you out of the water for good, splash around at Mandalay Bay Beach. This outdoor, 11-acre artificial beach makes you feel like you’re at the ocean, without having to worry about Jaws paying you an unexpected visit. This unique attraction also features an outdoor stage that has played host to Tears for Fears and the Doobie Brothers. If you’re traveling with kids, watch out – this beach offers a topless sunning area.

One of my favorites to stay on the strip

Reviewed by Marck on June 25, 2008

Marck's rating:

"The Mandalay Bay hotel is so posh. It is one of my favorite hotels to stay at on the strip, though it is on the far end. This hotel has everything you need all in one location. Sure other hotels do, but this one does it with class. I really liked the large bathroom. The separate full bath and shower was the icing on the cake for me. With a spa, great restaurants to eat and drink at, I would never leave here."

Favorite hotel in Vegas

Reviewed by folashade on January 11, 2007

folashade's rating:

"This is my absolute favorite hotel in Las Vegas! Having visited Vegas 18 times in three years, mainly for work, this remains my all-time favorite hotel. Where to begin describing this hotel? The experience begins from the moment you walk into this hotel; the parrots in lobby are there with the giant fish tanks. The rooms are large and spacious with large double closets. The rooms are painted a light yellow with colorful spreads. There is a comfortable desk with two data ports next to the floor-to-ceiling windows that make it easy to spread out. Or you can curl up in the comfortable chair in the room. The bathroom has stone floors and contains a shower and separate sunken tub. Among the amenities included in the room are bath salts so you can sink into the deep tub. The television is contained in a light oak armoire. During one stay, for some reason I was upgraded to a two-bedroom suite. Talk about decadence! Each room was appointed like the standard rooms, each with its own bathroom. Separating the two rooms is a nice-size living room with a big-screen TV and a dining room area. Mandalay doesn’t simply have swimming pools. You can go to any hotel on the strip for a pool. They have three pools. But that is not the highlight. The highlight is the manmade beach complete with sand and intermittent waves. They also have a lazy river where you can rent a tube ($20) and float down the river. If you get tired of lazing by the pool, you can go to the shark reef ($16 for adults, $10 for kids under 12, and kids under 4 get in free) to see the different species of sharks. You can party at Rum Jungle or grab a drink at Red Square. If you go to the left of the check-in desks and walk down the hall, you will enter the Four Seasons Hotel, which is connected to Mandalay. Once you walk down that hallway and enter the Four Seasons, it is like entering a different world. The noise level instantly drops to near reverence-like silence."

"I have stayed here many times and it is my favorite place in Vegas. The rooms are great especially the bathrooms. Make sure to request a higher floor on strip side….great view!!! Plus the casino is clean and spacious. Even if people are smoking you don’t notice it much. The pools and restaurants are awesome!"

Very Fun

"We’ve stayed at this resort about 5 or 6 times now and it’s my personal favorite in Las Vegas. The price is higher than some but the hotel is worth it. I would recommend hitting Raffles near the lobby for a burger. From what I’ve seen, it probably the best value burger in the city. "

very homey and relaxing.

"It’s farther away from the strip, so it’s a bit quieter, but there’s a shuttle that takes you to Excalibur. The Spa is worth visiting, and the Burger Bar makes great burgers."

Mandalay Bay All The Way!

Reviewed by gmoylan on December 06, 2006

gmoylan's rating:

"After many years of travel to Las Vegas, this has become my all time favorite casino. When I stay here I never leave the property. They have it all under one roof.First off, the casino is huge. Plenty of tables and slots. The layout is amazing. Want to take a break from gambling but still hang in the casino area? Just grab a drink at the center bar and watch everyone gamble. The rooms are great – very roomy, luxurious and awesome bathrooms!Best of all, however, are the endless choices of restaurants and bars along the lower level “mall”. But it’s not a mall really. Just great food and drink joints. Then, there’s the huge pool, beach and waves out back!!!I’m going there for a convention in February 2007 and cannot wait. 4 nights and 5 days and I guaranty I will not stray from the property!"

Mandalay Bay - You don't have to walk through the casino to get to any of these public areas or the guest-room elevators, the pool area is spiffy, and the whole complex is marginally less confusing and certainly less overwhelming than some of the neighboring behemoths.
