Important Hotel Information:

The Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino’s claim to fame is built on two things: spacious suites and scantily clad waitresses. (This isn’t where you’d take the kids.) Every room in the hotel is a suite, open and uncluttered, decorated in warm neutrals. Perhaps the size of the rooms is intended to compensate for the frenetic crowds on the lower levels, where every day is a billed as a carnival. The exterior certainly reflects the Mardi Gras madness happening inside; the Rio’s buildings themselves are bright red and purple, with gigantic masks hanging from the ceiling. True to the essence of a Brazilian Carnaval or a Louisiana Mardi Gras, visual overload is the order of the day. On the main floor, the stunning Masquerade Village (recently revamped by Dick Foster Productions) is a roving party of acrobats, mimes and sexy dancers. Dance along on the side, or for a small fee, you can get in costume and hop on one of the floats. The costumes are garish – think Carmen Miranda meets Cirque du Soleil – and that’s part of the fun. Throw on as many layers of beads as you can and move to the sinuous bahia beats.

Samba your way through the lounge and play some slots along the way, but leave time to visit the tropical paradise outside, complete with a sandy beach alongside the lagoon. You don’t have to be tall and tan and young and lovely to visit the Rio’s Ipanema Beach (although it certainly helps). Waterfalls, Jacuzzis, and poolside beverage and food service will help you relax and gear up for another night of reckless abandon inside. Although Las Vegas is famous for catering to guests with a Y chromosome, the Rio Hotel and Casino bucks the trend. Their Ultimate Girls Night Out package includes access to the Flirt Lounge, designed by women for women. Here, feather boas are used as decor, and the combination of eggshell yellow and violet lighting creates a less manic version of the Mardi Gras color scheme, with circular eggplant-colored banquettes that give you an unobstructed view of both fellow patrons and the shirtless waiters.

Nice hotel for the price

Reviewed by Gini on March 24, 2009

Gini's rating:

"I was the event coordinator for a conference held at the Rio in March 2009. As far as event planning went, I'd have to give the hotel a 6 out of 5...they were phenomenal! They really know how to put on a conference and were so accommodating, right down to the last detail. The rooms were nice: clean and spacious. I think calling them suites is a bit misleading, I'd call them oversized rooms. The upgraded suites (such as the Masquerade Suites) were huge: about 1500 square feet. As anyone who reads my reviews knows, I'm big on cleanliness of the room and especially the bathroom. This one rates very high on my list, as everything was very clean and nice. Water pressure in the hotel was good, amenities were good. Overall, I think you can't do much better for your money in Vegas these days. My only complaint with any of the hotels in Vegas lately is the casinos themselves. With most of the casinos being half empty except for the very late hours of 11pm-2am, you'd think they'd lower the table limits during off-peak hours. But it's hard to find a nice casino with table limits of less than $15 a hand. I'm sorry, but that's just a bit steep for most people. If the casinos want to increase their business at the tables, they've got to start listening to the players...not the high-rollers, who will play the $25 and up tables all day long, but the average Joes who walk in off the street and don't have a thousand bucks to drop in a night."

exciting hotel

Reviewed by teenyse on February 06, 2007

teenyse's rating:

"When I lived in Los Angeles, I stayed at the Rio 3 or 4 times and even though it’s off The Strip, it’s a great place to stay. The rooms are huge with great views of the mountains or The Strip. When you’re in the casino, the music and free shows keep the excitement going, which is one of the reasons to go to Vegas. The Seafood Buffet is worth the wait if you really like crab legs and peel & eat shrimp – it’s not gourmet, but above average for buffet food. I used to go to Club Rio a lot – it’s better if you’re in your 20’s and want to dance and meet younger people. The rooftop bar is very cool, though, if you want to have a drink or 2 with a small group or one other person."

Huge Rooms

Reviewed by beth0603 on February 04, 2007

beth0603's rating:

"Affordable, huge rooms with floor to ceiling windows and a great view of the strip! Downside is that it is not on the trip…but it is just a shuttle or taxi ride away! Rio itself is a large casino with lots of entertainment!"
