The gleaming bronze facade of the Wynn Hotel and Casino is one of the highlights of the Strip, and with good reason. Steve Wynn’s paean to Vegas-style luxury is his pet project, all $2.7 billion of it. The generously sized rooms contain thoughtful gadgets like remote-controlled curtains, flat-screen TVs and a second TV in the bathroom. And just in case you forgot you were in Vegas, you’ll be reminded when you see the price tags on items in your room that are available for purchase. As part of the hotel’s lure, Wynn has loaned some of his priceless paintings to the Wynn Collection. Amid masterworks by Picasso, Renoir and Van Gogh, you can gaze at the texture of their brushstrokes as you listen to Wynn’s own commentary on why he bought these particular paintings. Self-aggrandizing? Yes. Enough to make us turn away? Not by a long shot. There are more things to drool over at the Wynn than Cezanne’s self-portrait. Wynn recruited only world-class chefs to helm his kitchens, which is why it’s hard to go wrong no matter how you deal with your hunger pangs. The highlight of Wynn’s offerings is certainly Alex – the eponymous restaurant of Chef Alessandro “Alex” Stratta. Highlights include the four course prix-fixe menu and, for commitmentphobes, a special tasting menu that lets you sample a little bit of everything. Brush up on your French pronunciation before ordering so as not to feel declassé when you stumble over the names of dishes like lobster quenelles or lamb with persillade and boulangere potatoes. But no matter how much you may want to, you simply can’t eat all day long. Luckily, Wynn has thought of this, too. The Wynn Esplanade is filled with shops that, depending on how many zeroes there are in your bank balance, are either eye candy or an actual candy store in which you can be the proverbial kid. Shining like a patent leather shoe are the highly polished Ferrari and Maserati models most desired by men approaching their mid-life crisis. To see them, you may have to brush past the rows of Midwestern families videotaping the cars’ inactivity for posterity. For the women, the shopping choices also have a Continental ring to them with names like Manolo Blahnik and Jean Paul Gaultier (the first independent Gaultier store in the nation). Are Manolo Blahnik Mary Janes really just an urban shoe myth? You’ll have to come inside to find out. Golfers, take note: Wynn’s Shadow Creek course, designed in conjunction with Tom Fazio, is an oasis in the desert not to be missed. The course is so spectacular that it was built into the ground so as to be invisible to casual passers-by, and photographs are not permitted. Apparently, the course lives up to the hype: It’s been ranked as one of the top ten in the world by both Golf Digest and Golf Magazine. You’ll putt, chip and drive past creeks, groves of trees and even a waterfall. To prove that nothing at the Wynn is done on a small scale, even golf, you can be driven to and from the course in a limousine.

Wynn, Las Vegas

"From the moment you walk into the hotel lobby, you've completely walk into a slice of paradise. It is like you have stepped out from Las Vegas and into heaven. It is so colorful and so vibrant that it took my breath away completely. The casino area is well decorated. You will see people from every walks of life at the tables, betting away of course. The buffet at the Wynn is a must. It's a tad more expensive than other hotel buffets offered around the area but it is an experience you will never forget. The buffet has a huge selection. The rooms are great. The view especially if you get the higher floors, are superb as you can see The Strip and the ever busy traffic. I would love to go back there again."

The Most Beautiful Hotel in Las Vegas

"Steve Wynn spared no expense in creating the Wynn Las Vegas. We have stayed there many times and no matter what floor or view, the rooms are opulent and extraordinary. The hotel staff treats you with grace and courtesy, whether you're worth $100 or $100 million. The evening turndown service, complete with chocolates and slippers, makes you never want to go home! Make sure you sign up for a Red Card because the Wynn sends some fantastic room rate offers plus!"

Exceptional Property and Without Draining my Bank Acct

Reviewed by Nsedef on February 21, 2007

Nsedef's rating:

"Though it’s being touted as one of the most expensive properties in Vegas, I have to say we go a really reasonable package for a week’s stay last year – where we averaged $220/night as a room rate. Not bad considering the standard pricing all week, which is typically in the $400-500 range. I personally find the theme-driven, ostentatious and elaborate designs and architecture of most Vegas properties to be tasteless and a turn-off. The Wynn, by comparison, was positively elegant. Dare I say understated. The rooms are nice, especially the fluffy, yet firm bed; the awesome marble baths with double sinks/vanity, and even a plasma TV in the corner. The living room also had a flat-screen plasma, wall-to-ceiling windows, and an Ethernet connection if desired. The buffet was by far the best part. Considering the fixed price, the quality and selection of food was dazzling. We found ourselves skipping the higher-priced restaurants located nearby and even in the hotel in favor of the delicious, unmatched buffet food offered at the Wynn. You simply can’t stop eating; there’s too much to potentially miss out on. All quite excellent, including seafood entrees. While the weather was still a bit chilly during the time of our visit, we actually hung out by the pool on the day we arrived. If only to simply take it all in. Was an incredibly relaxing environment, and the poolside drinks were awesome. Still haven’t found a frozen one like what I experienced there, though I keep trying to replicate it at other places. The gym had clean, new equipment, and was of a size that ensured you didn’t have to wait for use of any equipment. Enjoyed working out there 2-3 times during the week. The poker room was excellent, based on my friend’s experience. And she’s quite experienced. The poker room offered us a free meal at an internal restaurant, based on hours she spent playing at their tables (she also won some $800). And this was our first visit. She’d go back there for poker over any other property in Vegas. The rest of the casino itself didn’t leave me with any fond memories; the slot machines are positively tight compared to most I’ve played. Regardless, I’d love to go back. The stores are nice to have, but I’m probably not in the spending category of most guests. Either way, it was nice to have a week-long stay at a fairly posh property, and still feel quite at home and welcome. A significant bonus is that it didn’t eat up my annual vacation budget. Far from it, I ended up making 2 other trips during the year.Having just returned from a business trip to Vegas where the lodging left much to be desired, I’d go back to the Wynn in a heartbeat. Assuming I could get the same deal on room rates, that is. "
