Most people think of Las Vegas as Sin City, a place that is raucous in truly bacchanalian proportions. But would you be surprised to learn that Las Vegas is one of the most artistically realized cities in the world? It shouldn’t. Las Vegas offers as much to the cultured, sophisticated art lover as it does to the hedonistic gambler. Look inside the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art and you can see why. The Impressionist painters Monet, Renoir, and Van Gogh revolutionized art in the nineteenth century; here, you’ll find some of their most famous paintings hanging side by side. Exhibits rotate in and out, but are usually centered around Impressionist works (notable exceptions include an Andy Warhol exhibit, and a display of Fabergé trinkets from the Kremlin). Group tours are available, and if you have at least 20 friends with you, you can even celebrate your birthday in front of a Corot. Recent exhibits have focused on French landscapes, depicting the paradigm shift from studio painting to painting outdoors. Come and be dazzled by the electric blues and sumptuous yellows of Van Gogh, without having to hop a plane to the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam.
