The city of Las Vegas is fast earning a name for itself in art circles around the world. Led by the Wynn and the Venetian, Las Vegas is luring crowds with names including Monet and Cezanne. The Guggenheim Hermitage at the Venetian Hotel and Casino is leading this transformation. Under the patronage of Dr. Mikhail E. Shwydkoi, the Russian Federation’s Minister of Culture, and the management of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, the Guggenheim Hermitage Museum presents some of the most inspired and mesmerizing exhibits this country has ever seen. Currently the Guggenheim Hermitage Museum is displaying a rare treat for Western art lovers – a collection of Russian decorative art objects. Called "Russia! The Majesty of the Tsars: Treasures from the Kremlin Museum," this is one of the finest collections of Russian jewelry, armor, icons and more to leave the Kremlin since Peter the Great. The museum was designed by Pritzker Prize–winning architect Rem Koolhaas. It features a unique form of steel (Cor-Ten) that is meant to echo the velvet-covered walls of the Hermitage while remaining modern and stark as well. With this museum, Las Vegas joins the ranks of other Guggenheim cities, including Bilbao, Berlin, New York and Venice.
