Track designer Richie Clyne spent five years visiting racetracks around the world before laying the foundation for the $200 million Las Vegas Motor Speedway, located a few miles north of the Strip. Nothing has been held back, and customer satisfaction is priority one at this 1,600-acre facility, complete with a 1.5 mile superspeedway, a 2.5 mile infield road course, 129,000 grandstand seats, and a 4,500 space RV camp that overlooks the speedway. Not enough? Rent one of the three 600-person party rooms or one of the 102 air-conditioned luxury boxes, and check out the half-mile dirt oval, the 3/8-mile paved oval, the new dragway and the off-road motocross areas. Track tours are offered daily, offering the chance to go down on the track itself and take a lap, as well as pose for photos immortalizing your quest for pole position. If you’re a speed demon, you may also want to attend the truck or motocross racing happening year-round at the speedway. As Vegas has grown, so has the city’s demand for quality live sports events. As a result, the NBA will be holding its annual All-Star game in Las Vegas next year, despite the city’s not having a franchise. Events at the speedway are ramping up as well, with racing enthusiasts flocking to watch sprint cars, racing trucks, and more. The NASCAR Craftsman truck racing series stops here, as does the NASCAR Nextel Cup series. Given that NASCAR is now a $2 billion per year industry, it’s only fitting that the tour makes a pit stop in this city of high rollers.
