One of them talks a lot, and the other one never says a word. You may not know which is Penn and which is Teller, but together they are one of the hottest duos in Vegas since Martin & Lewis. They’ve been named magicians of the year in Vegas twice, and with their signature brand of audience involvement, it’s easy to see why. Rather than dazzling you with smoke and mirrors, these are the thinking man’s magicians. They don’t want to simply amaze you with sophisticated visual tricks. They want you to think about what they are doing, see the trick, and still be amazed by the beauty and simplicity of it all. A Penn & Teller show is funny, scary, outrageous and outlandish. And that’s before the gorilla and the showgirl come out, so hang on to your seat (if you can get one to begin with). Penn & Teller are extremely popular, thanks to their hit show on Showtime and frequent guest appearances on late night TV. If you’ve seen their TV show and watched them explain the stupid things people do, you’ll appreciate Penn’s animated discourse on pop culture’s foibles and you’ll come away with a sense that entertainment in Vegas is more than showgirls and musicals based on songs from the ‘70s. They’re billed as a magic show, but that barely scratches the surface of what Penn & Teller do. They are magicians in the traditional sense of the word, performing sleight of hand just the way magicians did a hundred years ago in street carnivals. But they are also magicians who reveal how several of their tricks are done, which is reason enough to attend. Their material is edgy, and keeps the legend and spirit of Rat-Pack style Vegas entertainment alive.

Mixed experience

ohsostrange's rating:

"Some of their magic is truly beautiful, particularly Teller’s bit with the coins and gold fish. But some of it’s cringe-inducing and cruel. These guys are good entertainers, but really unlikeable human beings. I had a really bad experience with the theater’s rude, pushy usher, as well."

Very good show

"This show is really entertaining. They are amazing magicians and showmen to boot. It is actually quite hilarious. Even though I saw them on TV once or twice, some of the tricks they do will leave you absolutely dumbfounded as to how they pulled them off."

Penn & Teller - The most intelligent show in Vegas, as these two -- magicians? illusionists? truth-tellers? BS artists? Tell you what, let's settle on geniuses -- put on 90 minutes of, yes, magic and juggling, but also acerbic comedy, mean stunts, and great quiet beauty.
