It is tough business getting a tee time at Shadow Creek. You either need to spend a lot of cash while staying at the MGM Mirage, or show up with George Clooney and Matt Damon. Michael Jordan would probably do, as well. The course at Shadow Creek is another Tom Fazio design, and probably his best. The natural backdrop of mountains and lakes adds visual interest, but the course itself is a beautiful mix of challenging landscapes. For example, the par three 17th hole features an island green with a waterfall in the back. The course is difficult and contains more water hazards than most. It is also lush beyond belief. You’ll often find yourself standing in shade, a novel concept for the desert. Thick pine trees line the fairways at every hole. Shadow Creek is gorgeous, there’s no question. It’s also expensive – greens fees are $500 a pop. But at least they send a limo for you, and let you travel to and from the course in style.
