"Drive west from Laughlin, Nv on Hwy 163 for approx. 5 miles. On the North side of the highway is a small sign for Christmas Tree Pass. Turn there and head North on the Christmas Tree Pass Road for approx. 2 miles to a left turn into Grapevine Canyon. Grapevine Canyon has a sign posted. The parking area/bathrooms is about 1/4 mile drive in on a dirt road. The canyon is approx. a 1/4 walk up the dry river bed. Christmas Tree Pass and Grapevine Canyon Road are graded dirt roads, passable for any vehicle. We made it in a regular minvan. (Lat:35.19123 Lon:-114.58297) 1/4 of a mile up the wash to Grapevine Canyon near Spirit Mountain, Nv. 1000 year old Native American Indian Petroglyphs start at eye level and continue up several hundred feet up the canyon wall. Cliffs are on both sides of the wash. Petroglyphs are on also on both sides, back & beyond the front cliff area. This is an easy hike that involves a small amount of climbing, only if desired. We climbed several areas on both of my trips here. I am no major climber but this was well wroth the small amount of effort needed. The petroglyphs go 40 to 50 feet below the current sand level in the wash. Currently, there is no run off to be found in the wash area. There is also a waterfall/stream/spring back further on the path. It is a very peaceful and relaxing place, well worth the climb/scramble to see the waterfall. The petroglyphs were by far the best I have seen and very easy to access. It's a wonderful break from the parched area of Laughlin and Bullhead City, a true Oasis in the desert! I especially loved the petroglyph of the Big Horned Mountain Goats/Sheep. Keeping in mind the area is called "Spirit Mountain", take a deep breath while there and enjoy the surroundings. The area is said to have been used for Native American Spiritual Ceremonies."
