Location. The Fern Lodge, located in Chestertown, N.Y., is positioned in the Adirondack Mountains overlooking Friends Lake. Loon Lake is four miles from the property, and Cronin’s Golf Resort is less than 11 miles away. Gore Mountain Ski Area, which offers 85 trails of downhill and cross-country skiing, is 16 miles from the inn.
Features. Constructed in 2005, this lodge-style bed and breakfast offers rustic charm, featuring a great room with vaulted log ceilings, a stone fireplace and expansive views of Friend’s Lake. Full, complimentary breakfasts are served daily. Dinner, including wood-fired pizza, is available upon request. Afternoon tea and evening wine and cheese receptions are also provided. Other property highlights include a wine cellar, game table and nine-person movie theater. A sauna and fitness equipment, including a universal machine, free weights, an elliptical machine and medicine ball, are available. An outdoor fireplace is contained in a screened-in porch. The lodge offers kayaks to take out on the lake, and hosts late afternoon boat tours with beverages and hors d’oeuvres. Hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and fishing are available on the lodge’s 70 acres of wooded property. Pets are not allowed.

Guestrooms. Guestrooms at The Fern Lodge feature stone fireplaces and lake and/or mountain views. Accommodations include private bathrooms with jetted tubs and two-person steam showers. Cable television and complimentary wireless Internet access are provided. All rooms feature small wet bars and refrigerators. The Pine room features a barn-beam bed and a porch. The Cedar room and the Birch room boast vaulted ceilings and screened-in porches. Nightly turndown service is provided.

Expert Tip. Whitewater rafting trips are available from early spring until fall on the Hudson River, located six miles from the inn.
