The New York City skyline offers an unequaled portrait of immense buildings crowding the blue above. High above even that stands a feat of American will known as the Empire State Building. Taken in from across the Hudson in New Jersey, the Empire State Building is a like a redwood standing in a field of cement and steel. The only view more impressive is that from the top of this colossal structure. Vertigo befalls many who circle the top observation deck, just a few feet short of the building’s pinnacle. The views of Manhattan are unparalleled, offering a perspective usually reserved for creatures of flight. Those who stand tall and lean for a peek to the street below often are left searching for breath. If some of the more hesitant need a little “encouragement” before the trip up (or steadying on the way down) stop at the Heartland Brewery & Rotisserie for a bite and some handcrafted beers. With its rich history, its imposing stature of might and power, and its beautiful architecture, the Empire State Building is as unique as the city it has helped define..

View of the city!

"You can’t go to New York City and not visit the Empire State Building. From the moment you step inside the lobby and notice its art deco designs till the moment you step out of the elevator on the observation deck, you will be in awe. The view from the observation is the main reason people visit this building of course, and the view doesn’t disappoint at all. The views are unrestricted and you can see all of New York City."

"No visit to NYC is complete without a visit to the Empire state building and a visit to the observatory 86 stories up where you can city the city from east, west, south and northern views. While the lines can be long you can cut down the wait by purchasing your tickets in advance online so you can bypass the line to purchase your tickets"

best after dark

"Incredible waits, and it can be so crowded you can barely move. Especially crowded on Monday nights, when most plays are dark. There’s a motion-ride in the building that you don’t want to waste the time and money on. The view from the observation deck is worth the wait and inconvenience, though."

Empire State Building review

family's rating:

"Well this is obviously a must-see attraction, so plan on waiting in a very long line. (Bring a snack or something if you’ve got impatient kids with you.) It’s worth it, though, as you will have a view unlike anything you’ve seen. There are lots of places to get great photos of the NYC skyline, but this is the place to get views in all four directions. My seven-year-old was terrified, as was a little expected, but my 10-year-old loved every minute. Clearly, you must not forget your camera."
