There are train stations, and then there’s Grand Central Terminal. As you disembark and enter the gorgeous main concourse with its cathedral-high ceilings, you feel like you’ve finally _arrived. _Fully restored to its 1913 Beaux Arts grandeur, the terminal has become one of Manhattan’s enduring symbols, in large part because it narrowly escaped the same fate as Penn Station, which was tragically demolished and replaced with the soulless monstrosity that now stands in its place. Thanks to such high-profile supporters as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, the Grand Central Terminal was given a new lease on life, and today it would be impossible to imagine Manhattan without it. The magnificent main facade features statues of Hercules, Minerva, and Mercury, while inside the vaulted, 125-foot ceilings are painted like the night sky with stars and constellations -a real treat for Manhattanites, who rarely get to see twinkling stars amid the city lights. In addition to serving as the departure point and terminus for numerous trains and subways, Grand Central Terminal also has stylish restaurants and lounges and a gourmet food market.

"Grand Central has shopping and more. For those of you who like classically influenced architecture this is the place to go. During certain times of the year the ceiling is lit up with the star formations. There is also a transit museum in the treminal as well as a wine tasting store."

"Grand Central Station is a great landmark in New York City. Its always busy with people running to catch their train and has great architecture and decorations. But what I was surprised to find out was that theres lots of restaurants and even a market area that sells all kinds of fresh food and produce."

A work of art

"Even if you are not going to catch a Metro North train a visit to Grand Central is a must see. Grand Central is embodies what architecture used to mean. Full of details that most buildings today simply don’t have this is an awe inspiring masterpiece. After you are done wandering around the various halls you can grab a bite to eat at one of the several restaurants or go shopping at one of the many vendors or shops located within Grand Central"

Living History

"Here nestled amongst the skyscrapers is a bit of living history in New York. Grand Central reminds us of a time before architecture lost its soul. Currently the main hub for Metro North, it also features many shops and galleries."
