The Stock Exchanges present home on Wall Street did not open until 1903, but trading in stocks began well before that; by the time this building became its headquarters, the Exchange had already been in existence for more than a hundred years. Today, people trade hundreds of millions of shares electronically as well as by the floor broker system. Visitors can see the action on the floor from a viewing gallery. Multi-media exhibits help explain the frenzy below. Admission is free.

The floor

komodokd's rating:

"The stockexchange offers tours. You can look down on the stockexchange floor from a viewing room. It loos just the way it does when they show it on the news. You also learn some interesting facts about the place. Kids might get bored, but it’s good to go to if you’re interestd in finance."

Some history and fun

inversed's rating:

"If you feel like your job is stressful, a trip here might make you a little more thankful for what you have. Looking down on the stockroom floor from the observation deck was an experience unto itself. Yes, this place offers information on the stock market and it’s history, but I found watching the stockbrokers with multiple phones to their ears, throwing papers about, and yelling and running around to be the most memorable."
