A gem of urban planning, Rockefeller Center has long occupied a special position in the heart of the city – and in the hearts of New Yorkers and visitors alike. It’s home to the NBC studios – this is where all those screaming Today show fans gather – and features a slew of restaurants, offices and gorgeous rooftop gardens. As you’re walking around the city, the Center makes for a great pit-stop to refuel, with coffee and a light meal. Most importantly, they have clean public restrooms, which is a godsend if you’re exploring New York with little ones who really, really have to go. The Rockefeller Center is most magical in winter, when the Lower Plaza transforms into an ice rink. Join the crowds and zip about the ice amid the center’s looming buildings. In early December, the famed Christmas tree is lit up with much fanfare, ushering in the holiday season.

Great at Christmas

Reviewed by komodokd on February 11, 2007

komodokd's rating:

"This place is great to visit during Christmas time since the tree is up and the place just make you feel full of Christmas spirit. Excellent place for people watching at any time of year. There are shops in the concourse level although most of them are moderately expensive. If you are there around January you might come across NBC pages handing out free tickets to some shows that are being taped there. Large crowds also gather during the early morning for the Today show."

Ice Skating!

Reviewed by dgdarien on February 01, 2007

dgdarien's rating:

"The best time to visit Rockefeller Center is of course during Christmas when they have the huge Christmas tree and ice skating rink. Otherwise it just features a restaurant. It is right next to an NBC building/store and a Dean & Delucca."
