Summary of Statue of Liberty
When it was dedicated in 1886, the Statue of Liberty instantly stood as a beacon to all those who held on to hope and believed that better things awaited them in America. To this day, Lady Liberty can conjure a sense of awe in all who lay eyes upon her, and after more than a century she remains a popular attraction among visitors. The ferry trip out to Liberty Island is almost as exciting as a tour of the statue itself. From the windswept deck, you can stare out into the misty waters, taking in the sights of the city and the vastness of the ocean beyond. Once you alight on the island, you can take several different ranger-guided tours. Visit the lobby, museum, and promenade, and check out the pedestal observatory to see the statue up close and to get a full-circle view of the harbor. The majority of the tours are free, but there is a $10 ferry ticket charge for adults. If you want to see the monument without spending a dime, you can hop on the Staten Island Ferry for free and get a stunning view of the Statue of Liberty as you float by.
