If you’ve had your fill of the concrete jungle, head for the greener pastures of the verdant, blooming New York Botanical Garden, with a whopping 50-acre forest of maples, conifers and other tree species. On the western side of the park rises the crystal Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, home to a palm court, large feathery ferns and the annual March Orchid extravaganza. Kids will delight in the Children’s Adventure Garden, with oodles of interactive plant exhibits. The little ones learn how to identify different herbs by look and scent, and also how to cook with them. Those with a green thumb will swoon at the Shop in the Garden, where you can buy anything and everything related to gardening and plant appreciation, including exotic seeds, tools and fine prints; for the kids, you’ll find stuffed Audubon birds and daisy pencils.
