This famous Jewish deli draws tourists and locals alike, all of whom will be sitting right next to you at Carnegie’s cafeteria-style tables. Relax, enjoy your meal and appreciate the chance to chat with people who you normally would not. Much of the wait staff at Carnegie has been here for many years and the veteran waitresses have even been dubbed “witches with a heart of gold.” They are known for their brusque reputation. These ladies are not the sticky sweet, flare-sporting servers that you might be used to, but, rest assured, you will get nothing but prompt and knowledgeable service. Anyway, the real reason to visit this deli is the food. Only Steven Tyler could possibly open his mouth wide enough to fit one of their sandwiches in. You can’t go wrong sticking to the classics: Corned beef and pastrami are incredible, and be sure to order a side of the slaw with Russian dressing. All sandwiches are served with a bowl of sour and half-sour pickles, and if you are craving something sweet, Carnegie is known for its cheesecake. The deli serves until 4 a.m., but during peak hours a line wraps outside the restaurant. Any wait you will have will be worth it.

Massive Sandwich

"Huge sandwiches are the norm here. They won’t let you split one and eat in so my wife and I always grab one to go and take it back to the room and share. It might be the most expensive deli in NYC, but well worth it!"

Always worth a visit

"Pounding the pavement in NYC en route to business deals works up an appetite, and that’s when I pay a visit to my buddies at Carnegie Deli, home of the monster corned beef sandwich. After one of their towering mega-wiches – and a side of slaw or fried onion rings – I’m unstoppable for the rest of the day. Plus, it’s a loud, in-your-face kind of place with a healthy dose of New York attitude, which is exactly what I want in a deli. Get a wedge of cheesecake to go – you won’t regret it."

"We tried to go to lunch here a little later than typical lunchtime because we heard the wait can be pretty long, so we did our FAO Schwarz outing first, and then stopped by the Carnegie Deli. There was still a small line, but nothing terrible. My husband, Mike loves delis, so he was excited to get a meal here. The corned beef is wonderful and the slaw has this Russian dressing that is so delicious. The girls were a little less impressed – a Jewish-style deli is not exactly their cup of tea – but they perked up when they saw the selection of cheesecakes; they are worth saving room for."

"This famous Jewish style deli draws tourist and locals alike, all who will be sitting right next to you at Carnegie’s big long tables. Relax, enjoy your meal and appreciate the chance to chat with people that you normally would not. Much of the wait staff at the deli has been here for many years and the old staff has even been dubbed “witches with a heart of gold”. They are known for their “brusque” reputation but every time I have frequented this establishment I have had nothing but prompt and curious service. It may not be the, ask you 50 questions, sweet as syrup style that I am accustomed to in the Midwest, but this change is always refreshing on my visits here. Anyway, the real reason to visit this deli is the food. Only Steven Tyler could possibly open his mouth large enough to fit one of their sandwiches in. Prices may sound expensive for a, not so fancy deli, but once you see the portions, you will know why. You will get Your moneys worth. I tend to stick to the classics. Corned beef and pastrami are incredible and with a side of the slaw with Russian dressing you cannot go wrong. All sandwiches are served with a bowl of sour and half-sour pickles (my favorite) and if you are craving something sweet, Carnegie is known for their cheesecake. I have never been the slightest bit hungry leaving this place and therefore have never had dessert but all of the beautiful cakes in the window is quite tempting. The deli serves until 4am but during peak hours a line wraps outside the restaurant. Any wait you will have will be worth it."
