Summary of Nobu
If you judge a restaurant by how difficult it is to get a reservation, then Nobu takes top prize. Yes, trying to lock down a reservation at this TriBeCa hot spot, especially at the golden hour of 8 p.m., can be an exercise in futility, but after one taste of Chef Nobuyuki Matsuhisa’s exquisite Japanese cuisine, you’ll understand the hype. Matsuhisa’s traditional Japanese fare is laced with Latin American and European influences; it includes such memorable concoctions as black cod with miso, mussels enveloped in a spicy salsa, and yellow tail sashimi topped with jalapeños. Nobu is famously co-owned by restaurateur Drew Nieporent and actor Robert De Niro, and not surprisingly, on some nights the celeb-spotting easily rivals the cuisine. Once your eyes adjust to the dim lighting, you’ll no doubt spot a couple of stars swooning over their raw fish amid the stylish Japanese decor of elegant birch trees and gleaming wooden floors.
