This SoHo hot spot draws inspiration from its namesake, once the star-filled sanctum of New York City’s legendary Stork Club. In the ‘40s and ‘50s, the Cub Room, which served as a plush backdrop for “All About Eve” with Bette Davis, drew glamorous film stars, big-name politicos and novelists. In today’s Cub Room, the spirit of glitzy old New York lives on, especially in the swank bar and lounge outfitted with amber banquettes and a long, gleaming bar where you can order classic cocktails like the Cary Grant vanilla vodka and Kahlua – and the Knickerbocker the house version of a Manhattan, here shaken with Maker’s Mark and a dash of bitters. While the mood harks back to the ‘40s, the famous faces you’ll spot are very much of the moment, including Claire Danes, Billy Crudup and Uma Thurman. The Cub Room takes full advantage of its prime corner perch on Sullivan and Prince streets, with floor-to-ceiling windows that let in ample light and street energy. Tuck into the contemporary American fare – hanger steak, house cured gravlax or cornmeal-dusted calamari – while enjoying SoHo’s sidewalk spectacle.
