Summary of Union Square Cafe
The casual name belies the exquisite fare served at this splendid restaurant which, year after year, has made the Top 10 list of New York restaurants in numerous magazines. Well-known restaurateur Danny Meyer unveiled the Union Square Cafe back in 1985, offering American fare with a twist, made with the freshest ingredients, bought from right around the corner at the Union Square Greenmarket. The restaurant’s popularity stems as much from its fabulous fare as from the inviting, relaxed ambience and chatty, amiable staff. Colorful paintings adorn the walls, and the long bar does a bustling trade throughout the day and night. The daring menu offers everything from a classic, juicy burger and grilled salmon to polenta infused with gorgonzola. The terrific wine list – most offered by the glass – features excellent California vintages, among others. For a sweet finale, dig into their to-die-for berry pie topped with homemade vanilla bean ice cream.
