Summary of Takashimaya
Who knew shopping could be a Zen experience? Thanks to its clean lines, soothing color schemes and delicate tunes piped in at just the right decibel, the plush Takashimaya offers blissful browsing – and a sixth-floor spa for follow-up pampering. This mini, but no less opulent, Fifth Avenue version of Japan’s premier department store is awash in designer items, from silk blouses and chunky jewelry to silver cutlery and crystal vases. If you’re reeling from the sticker shock – no bargains here – head to Takashimaya’sserene tea room, where you can wind down over a steaming pot of green tea and graze on light finger foods such as the divine spring rolls. After that, it’s a lot easier to whip out your credit card.
