Stroud's

Stroud's

quote:

Don’t be surprised to wait an hour or two at this restaurant famous for its pan-fried chicken. Though the original Stroud’s closed at the end of 2005, a victim of road construction, this north of the river location keeps the restaurant’s fans well fed. Stroud’s no reservation policy leaves people from all over packed into joint. In the heart of the Midwest, fried chicken might as well have a spot on the food pyramid; it’s served on every grandma’s table and at every picnic, and it’s even served cold for breakfast. But the chicken at Stroud’s will put your grandma’s to shame; it’s served hot from cast iron skillets along with family style sides of green beans, home fries, and mashed potatoes and gravy. After dinner, piping hot, sticky-sweet cinnamon rolls appear. You can take home any leftovers. For anyone crazy enough not to order the chicken, Stroud’s offers pork chops, catfish and shrimp, all deep-fried, of course. This is not a restaurant that Weight Watchers would recommend, but it is truly home cooking at its finest. For a souvenir, take home a Stroud’s T-shirt that proudly boast, "We choke our own chickens." Your grandma will love it.
