McSorley's Old Ale House

McSorley's Old Ale House

quote:

Once you cross that 150-year-old threshold under a sign that boast, “We were here before you were born,” your choices will include light or dark. Beer, that is. There are no frou-frou drinks to be had here. It might have something to do with the fact that McSorley’s Ale House didn’t even serve women until the 1970s. This watering hole is chock full of history; Abe Lincoln himself once sat here and enjoyed a cold one. The Irish bartenders serve up two at a time of the light or dark and will keep ‘em coming till the wee hours. Scoring a table here has nothing to do with social status, but if you’re lucky enough to grab one, dust the sawdust off and coat your belly with some of their spicy mustard and onion on a saltine and prepare to get your drink on. This service ultimately results in a slurring crowd of locals, bikers, frat boys and tourists, all of whom will be your new best friend by the time you stumble out that door.
