Location. Woodfield Inn is located in Flat Rock, N.C., three miles south of Hendersonville, N.C. Less than three miles from the inn is the Flat Rock Playhouse, home of the Vagabond Players and designated the official State Theatre of North Carolina.
Features. The historic Woodfield Inn, built in 1852, is set on 23 rolling acres with formal English gardens and seven acres of walking trails. Complimentary country breakfasts are served daily, and evening socials provide light hors d’oeuvres, sweets, coffee, tea and lemonade. The inn’s restaurant, featuring fresh fish, steak and chicken entrees, and homemade desserts, is open for dinner Wednesday through Saturday, and for brunch on Sundays. The inn also offers a full-service bar, featuring a carefully-selected wine list and a variety of beers. Tennis facilities, sporting equipment and basketball courts are available. Magazines, books and children’s games are provided.

Guestrooms. The Woodfield Inn offers 18 bedrooms restored to their original Victorian period elegance. All guest accommodations offer private bathrooms. Many units include fireplaces. Rooms are equipped with televisions, telephones and complimentary wireless and high-speed wired Internet access. Suite units offer sitting areas with chairs or sofas, and an additional room. The Verandah rooms and the Premier Suite offer access through French doors to the inn’s verandah, which overlooks the grounds.

Expert Tip. During the Civil War, Confederate soldiers were garrisoned at the inn to protect the Flat Rock community. It is said the soldiers hid gold and jewelry from Union troops and renegades in a secret room that is still accessible from one of the second story rooms.
