Beaverton, with a population of 70,000, is the fifth-largest community in Oregon. It is just 7 miles west of Portland, off Hwy 217, in the heart of the Tualatin Valley, midway between Mt Hood and the spectacular Oregon coast.
Rolling hills, forests, rivers, and wetlands abound in the Beaverton area. The city has 185 parks covering 1,300 acres. With 30 miles of hiking trails and a 25-mile network of cycle paths, Beaverton has more designated “green space” than most cities of its size.
First settled in the early years of the Oregon Trail, Beaverton was founded in 1883 and today is in the heart of Oregon’s “Silicon Valley.” It offers all the amenities of a big city and is known for its attractive, well-planned neighborhoods.
A Taste of Beaverton is the town’s signature summer event. It brings 40,000 tourists to the town each year. It is a three-day festival in the town’s Griffith Park featuring local food, music, hot-air balloons, and arts and crafts.
Beaverton’s closest airport is Portland International. Buses and trains also service the area.
