"My wife and I visited one of the Embera villages on 12/22/07 and had a wonderful time! We were the only tourists this day and the village we visited was a newer village on a river very near the Caribbean. Our adventure began with a short motorized dugout canoe ride, accompanied by about 4 indians. We were greeted at the village by about 6 males of the village, playing some native music. We were then ushered to a covered area in the village for the entertainment. First, we were shown some of their handicrafts, but not pushed to buy anything. Then we were fed a lunch of fried fish and plantain, a sort of fish and chips, ala Embera style. The dancing began a short time later and the villagers danced about 5 dances for us. The last dance, my wife and I were grabbed up to dance with the villagers. Great fun! I want to stress here that this was a very magical day and we felt as if we were transported back in time to have the honor of spending a few hours with these wonderful, friendly people. They are beautiful inside and out. This is a newer village, just a year old and visited often by tourists. We highly recommend a tour to one of these villages if you want to step back in time and really enjoy a cultural experience like no other. If you visit Panama, don't miss the chance to spend the day with these kind and gentle people! We will never forget it."
