gusto! travel tools
A Response to Gustonian's Blogblog
See Gustonian's recent blog entry about the value of online travel sites.
There's not a lot for me to debate. I agree with you. I read a ton of stuff about a place I'm going to visit. I like to read what professional travel writers say, but I also like to hear the opinions of regular travelers. Often, a professional will totally skip over something that I find interesting, but someone online will share a unique experience that makes me want to visit. Neither is right or wrong. It's just a different point of view.
I don't base my trips on just one source, whether it's a guidebook or an online forum. I read everything I can find and decide what is best for me. I think there is a place for both type of information when you are planning a trip.

Thanks Patti. I think we are in the majority, find all the info we can get our hands on to make the travel experience the best it can be. Also, not only before "social networking," but before the web entirely, people were asking and receiving personal advice about travel, no? Nothing new here, just perhaps a better way to facilitate the discussion and reach a broader group of people. I'm biased, I think the technology is great, but the idea is simple, tried and true.
