"I visited this site with my family. We toured for just over two hours. It is a fair distance from the main roads, but was a very nice stop. It is very close to French Creek State Park. The hours and days open are limited, please be sure to check their website prior to visiting, in the fall they also have apple picking. Also they do have scheduled charcoal making. The visitors center has a small display area, hands on area, and a short slide show presentation (outdated, but informative). Beyond the visitors center is the historical area. The water wheel is working, and is even connected to the belows (listen to the pipe and you can hear the air going through). Many buildings have buttons to push to hear a 'character' tell about the area, these are very well done. One of the tenants buildings includes reproduction items so that kids (and adults) can touch and get a better idea of what things were really like. The really nice thing about this site is that it give you more then just information about iron making, and it's impact on America's history, it gives you insight on the people who lived and worked there."
