Knoebels in Pennsylvannia, cheapest amusement park

Reviewed by MichelleMiller on August 21, 2008

"Knoebels is for people who have children that loved to ride rides or just walk around, there is no admission fee to get in the park. You only pay for the rides you want to get on and your food. Good thing is you can camp there, they also have cabins. I love it because I do nit ride alot of rides, but my boyfriend and my kids do. it beats paying 50-60 dollars for admission for someone who is just going to get on a few rides. If you like amusement parks but don't want to spend alot of money, then knoebels is for you."

Best Amusement Park Around

Reviewed by Anonymous on September 11, 2007

Anonymous' rating:

"Great Adventure, Hersheypark, and Dorney Park are all great ways to enjoy the rides, food, and entertainment in the summer. But, the cost for a family of four to spend the day at one of those parks is outrageous. Next time, take a ride to Knoebel's. With free admission, you can take the entire family and not have to worry about buying a ticket if you are unable to go on any rides. Knoebel's is packed with great food, entertainment, games, and great rides for everyone. You can pack a picnic and eat under one of their large pavilions. The campground is attached to the park and there is an enormous swimming pool. If you want to have a great summer vacation that your family will never forget, make your next trip to Knoebel's in Elysburg, PA. "

Old fashioned park, great food

Reviewed by dagsmith on January 12, 2007

dagsmith's rating:

"We have visited with extended family each of the last 3 summers. Knoebel’s is a pleasant walk back in time. It is a beautiful setting – cut into a forest. The parking is free – entrance is free – you just pay as you go on the rides. Weekdays you have the option of buying all day admissions. There is a also a huge pool and water slide area – but that is extra admission. The food is reasonably priced compared to most parks and includes things like baked chicken, pirogies, an international food court – darn good variety for a park this size. Negatives are that most of the paths are unpaved so if it rains it is muddy. Also, the bathrooms are pretty basic (probably being a little kind there). Their two big wooden roller coasters – The Twister and Phoenix – are both excellent rides. And some of their older rides are wonderfully simple, yet great fun. The carousel is one of the few left in the US that includes a grab the brass ring challenge as part of the ride – adults and kids fight for the outside horses! The park is especially good if you have kids from toddlers to tweens. Great mix of rides. Not Disney – but great value for the money!"

Phun Phood and Phantasy

Reviewed by mrsthedke on December 28, 2006

mrsthedke's rating:

"OK… A little play on words and spelling, but still.. That is the main theme of Knoebels… Fun, food and fantasy! Knoebels is continuously named one of the best parks in the country for food and I tend to agree… You can get almost everything there to eat! The phood is phabulous! Pizza, ice cream, hot dogs, fries, club wraps, salads, funnel cake… You name it, and it is probably there… You can choose from any one of the walk up stands for food and beverage (pepsi products) or you can go to any of the covered eating facilities. They have the Phoenix steakhouse, which serves burgers, dinners and the like, the international food court that has everything from grilled cheese sandwiches and salads to pasta and mexican food, and the Alamo, which is a sit down restaurant. But enough of the food… The rides are decent… The Twister and the Phoenix are consistantly rated in the top 20 for wooden coasters in the country. They both have something different to offer. Phoenix is a traditional out and back coaster with decent air time. Twister is just that. It is a twisting coaster with lots of turns, twists and drops. Both coasters have a tunnel. Phoenix is at the beginning and Twister’s is at the end before you enter the station. New for next summer will be another wooden coaster called Flying Turns. It is an old style toboggan type coaster. Should be fun!Other rides at the park include world class bumber cars, a haunted mansion that is among the top if not the best dark ride in the country every year, a Grand Carousel where you can still catch the brass ring and win a free ride, and many other great rides.Parking and admission have been free forever and the park is pay as you go. There are picnic facilities all over the park where you can either bring your own food and grill or opt to have the park cater a function for your group. You can buy books of ride tickets in 5 and 10 dollar denominations or, on certain days, pay one price and get your hand stamped. The upside to this is that you can go with a family of 4, get 20 bucks worth of tickets and stay until they are gone. you don’t have ot pay 40 or 50 bucks per person to go to the park unless you want to. Go for a few hours, ride a few rides, see a free show at the bandshell and have some food. Then grab an ice cream and head home. Tickets are always good day to day and year to year, so if you go for one day a year and don’t use all the tickets you purchased, you can simply bring back the unused ones the following year and that is less you have to buy! This is a great family park and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to have a good time!"
