Few Philadelphia hotels can compete with the lavish opulence and attention to detail that defines the Rittenhouse Hotel. Occupying the first nine floors of a 33-story historic building, the hotel boasts a prime location on Philadelphia’s most famous square and draws celebs such as Denzel Washington and Bruce Willis. The hotel’s Mary Cassatt-themed lobby features a grand piano and plenty of intimate seating. Pale or whitewashed wood and marble accents provide the calming backdrop. The Rittenhouse Hotel’s guest rooms feature warm mahogany décor and French-inspired floral art prints against a soothing blue palette. Don’t miss Lacroix, the Rittenhouse Hotel’s spectacular French restaurant helmed by chef Jean-Marie Lacroix and named the best new restaurant in the country by Esquire magazine. The mix-and-match menu lets you have appetizers last or dessert first – it’s up to you.

Pot Heads- High Tea in Philadelphia - Afternoon tea is an antidote to the hurried and hassled way we live today. Unlike yoga, it only requires lifting a single finger — the pinkie. It's one of the reasons people are pouring into tea rooms across the country like Earl Grey into Wedgwood. Another reason might be the health benefits, such as providing antioxidants, recently ascribed to tea.

Tea Time in Philadelphia - But the charm of taking tea often depends on esoteric details of setting and serving. So are all teas created equal? I recently visited all four of Center City Philadelphia's big hotel teas to see.
