"Eastern State Penitentiary, a national historic landmark and the architectural model for some 300 prisons, is a great place for history buffs to visit. You can do a guided tour (the guides are fairly well-informed and helpful) or walk through by yourself. It's especially fun on Bastille Day (July 14th), when they stage a mock execution on the tower and the crowd (many of whom are dressed as French peasants) goes berserk below! "

"Whether you're interested in Historical sites, prison history, or a good ghost story, make a stop at Eastern State. The prison is huge and the guides are very informed of the history of the site, and of the alleged ghostly activity.
