Summary of Grace Tavern
Upon first glance, you’d assume Grace Tavern has been a Philly staple for decades. In truth, the doors have only been open since 2004, when Philadelphia’s beer-town heroes, Fergie Carey and Tom Peters, opened Grace as the southernmost member of the Monk’s gastro-pub empire. The space has all of the characteristics of an old-school neighborhood relic with its punched-tin ceilings and worn bar stools, but one look at the beer list and you know this isn’t Grandpop’s Miller Time (although the swill can be found listed alongside Yards Saison and Monk’s own Ommegang Witte.) The menu itself is a redesigned throwback to manly pub food and features artisan sausages accompanied by salty frites and the garlic aioli fast becoming Philly’s favorite fry accompaniment. The scene at Grace Tavern is decidedly eclectic: dinner brings in neighborhood families, and later the bar becomes a hot spot for post-shift waitstaff ready for a long-awaited pint.
