This sleek offering from the fellas who brought us the hip late-night spot Walnut Room proves the apple, err, walnut doesn’t fall far from the tree. This glass-fronted eatery sits directly below its swanky upstairs sister. Alfa brings a modern attitude to fine dining, serving what owner Joe Bekham calls “urban comfort food” in a setting more chic than shabby. Alfa leads the pack of a new breed in restaurants on the East side of Rittenhouse, blending the standard designer cuisine with the comfort and decor of something a little more, well, Old City. Dress to impress, as after you’ve had your fill of signature gin cocktails and interesting and sumptuous fusion delicacies including “ballpark tempura,” your best bet is to head, drink in hand, straight upstairs to dance the night away.
