Summary of White Dog Cafe
White Dog Cafe

Philadelphia, PA 19104

Judy Wicks literally opens her home to the public with her University City gem the White Dog Café — she has lived upstairs since its inception. The renovated row of three brownstones is home to both politics and fine cuisine prepared with the freshest organic ingredients. The menus change according to what’s freshest and most available to the White Dog chefs, but dishes are always inspired by local themes and international flavors. A smoked Pocono Springs rainbow trout gets a makeover when tossed with tarragon crème fraiche, and a striped bass might find itself paired with pan-seared serrano or encrusted with Brazil nuts. Whatever the season, the welcoming restaurant, with its intimate dining rooms and bar decorated by large photos of activists in action, including one of owner Wicks being led away in handcuffs at a recent political rally, is a must-try for both food and ambience. The White Dog wine list is no exception to the interesting and organic treasures of the restaurant, carrying more than 50 carefully selected wines, highlighted by a private label Chien Blanc chardonnay.
