The Reading Terminal Market has been open to the public since 1892. In the converted train station tucked just behind the Pennsylvania Convention Center you’ll find everything under the sun – daily vendors range from traditional Pennsylvania Dutch and Amish delicacies to local artisan cheeses, seafood, and freshly made candies and chocolates. Looking for a quick lunch can lead to gastronomic overload, as you’ll find every ethnicity, flavor and preparation of food you could ever wish for. This Philadelphia favorite has been profiled on Food Network dozens of times both for its endless ingredients and its hand-prepared delicacies, and it attracts thousands of tourists and suburban shoppers each day.

"My husband and I were in Philly for an anniversary weekend, and we went here Saturday morning to eat breakfast and look around. Ate at the Down Home Diner--delicious homemade food--yum! Lots of interesting merchants abound here...you can wander around for hours. Just watch out, though, you'll want to sample all the great food here, from Philly cheesesteaks to Pennsylvania Dutch soft pretzels!"

"I have visited Reading Terminal Market each time I go to Philadelphia-most recently this weekend. I always want to buy more than I should and end up lugging big bags home on the trains. Highlights: Chocolate by Muellers, Salumeria, The Flying Monkey, and Fosters’ (cooking supplies like you wouldn’t believe). The markets are full of local, fresh produce. Best times to go: weekday mornings after rush hour. Worst times: Saturdays-packed to the gills!!!!!"

"This is a fun place to visit. We ate our favorite Philly Cheese Steak here at Rick’s Steak. I had mine with fried onions and Provolone. I also had an amazing pastrami hoagie at Carmen’s Famous Hoagies. We also had a delicious chicken pesto crepe at the Crepe place where you can watch them make it. The cookies at the 4th Street Cookie Co. are about 1 inch tall, fresh and gooie. Oh my god, the chocolate chip, walnut cookie I had was TO DIE FOR! I also bought some chocolate covered pretzels as presents and my family gobbled them up. There’s a stall near the front of the market where you can watch the pretzels being made. The Dutch stall was closed when we were there, but it looks like they have lots of neat things to eat and souvenirs to buy."

"Stall after stall of local foods (think Cheesesteak) and groceries. Many food items of a myriad of ethnicities (Thai, Penn. Dutch, Mexican, etc). A good stop for lunch, although be prepared for lunch-time crowds."
