Yaquina Head Lighthouse

You can see forever!

The Yaquina Head Lighthouse is part of the Oregon State Park System; it will cost you $5.00 a carload to get in. It is well worth the price! First you come across the interpretation center that gives you a little history; there is also a small gift shop inside. You then follow the road down to the lighthouse. Be prepared! There are 110 narrow steps to the top of the lighthouse, but the view is fantastic! After you have explored the lighthouse, be sure to walk down the stairs to the tide pools. There you will find seals sunning themselves on the rocks, colorful sea urchins and starfish in the pools. Be careful where you walk, because there are mussel beds that you don't want to walk on. While sitting up by the lighthouse enjoying the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks below, I was very fortunate to glimpse a bald eagle landing in a nearby tree. He sat there proudly in the tree while people all around shot pictures of him. What a beautiful sight!!
