This is more than just a big hole in the ground. The discovery of meteors and its science occurred in this place which has served as a training location for NASA astronauts who were planning to walk in space. If you are driving along the mind-numbing stretch of the 1-40 near which Meteor Crater is located, this stop provides a chance to stretch your legs and break the monotony of the desert drive.
