Cairo
Cairo, Egypt 2007
My first time in Egypt. I found it to be as exciting as I expected. My sister and I traveled there on our own. Not as adventurous as it sounds, as my sister has business and personal contacts in Cairo and has traveled there twice a year for the past 6 years. We stayed two days in Cairo then traveled by car to Alexandria. One night and part of the next day there. Left for Soukhna on the Red Sea. Three wonderful days on the beach and back to Cairo. We spent three more days in Cairo at the Sheraton Hotel and Casino on the Nile River. It was too little time to get more then a taste of the country. Driving in Cairo and Alexandria is only for the brave and experienced. While in country we visited the Great Pyramids of Giza and went back again, on horseback. We spent a day shopping in the Khan el-Khalili Bazzar. With traffic as it is, it seemed we spent more time in the car then anything. It's bumper to bumper, and a 15 minute trip can turn into an hour or more. In Alex we visited Fort Qaitbey but did not go inside. We shopped the vendors outside. We also visited Amoud el-Sawari, which is where it is believed Pompey is buried after his flight to Egypt from Rome but in fact it was constructed in honor of the Emperor Diocletain. On to Ain Sukhna. Nothing but beach and quiet. Once we got back to Cairo, I told my sister, Cairo, from the 20th Floor of the hotel is one of the best ways to see Cairo. The views were tremendous! I would definitely return to Cairo and Egypt. So much to see, there are placed I wanted to go, but time didn't allow it.Reviewed on: April 22, 2007
