Location. The Sarah Kendall House, overlooking the Narragansett Bay in Newport, R.I., is one-quarter mile from the galleries, restaurants, shopping and entertainment venues on Thames Street. This bed and breakfast is located in the historic Point neighborhood, and is positioned one mile from the Tennis Hall of Fame and two miles from Fort Adams State Park.
Features. This 1878 Victorian home features a front porch with wicker chairs and settees, and a harbor-view sitting room occupying a 50-foot tower. Expert Tip. The 1748 Hunter House, located across the street from the Sarah Kendall House, was used as a Revolutionary War headquarters for Charles Louis d’Arsac, a French admiral. The house is furnished with pieces designed by Newport artisans Townsend and Goddard, and also showcases a painting by Gilbert Stuart, a well-known early-American portraitist. Seasonal tours of the home are provided for a fee.
