Andre's At The Lake
the perfect brunch
I don’t use the word ‘serendipity’ lightly, but today, after finding this place and sharing a perfect Mother’s Day brunch with my two little kids and their mother, I will do so.
Never having been to Lake Ozark, MO before, we landed at Andre’s after the European style hand-painted sign caught Kim’s eye. It was just what Kim wanted-to take a daytrip out of town and to find someplace with an excellent brunch.
In our opinion the superstar was the salmon. You get an entree like that and all the other dishes become friends. It was thick, cooked to perfect texture and was top-crusted with something delicious of which I know not what because I ate it too fast. I suggested it had rosemary but then saw I had polluted it with my rosemary potatoes because I piled my plate too high. Those were the best rosemary potatoes I’ve ever had. Those were the best hot peas and carrots in a sauce with fresh tarragon I’ve ever had.
Thinly sliced, cold, marinated tomatoes. Wild rice salad with cranberries and walnuts. Roasted chicken with herbs. Roast beef with mushrooms and consomme. Hearty, simple and elegant food cooked with liberal use of fresh herbs.
The whole side of the restaurant is windows and the tables are only two rows deep, so everyone gets a view of the lake. They have patio seating, but today they were keeping all patrons indoors because of high winds. Maybe because of this, the buffet was set up in a different place than usual, which was why it was a little jammed, my only quibble.
