A Royal Visit

Okay, we're not royalty by any means. But at the Westin Camporeal, we got royal treatment. To begin with, this is a very new property and stunning in every detail. Ensconced on a golf course in a beautiful and peaceful valley, where ancient windmills share the vineyard-covered hillsides with towering modern wind turbines, everything, from the pools and spa to the guestroom to the restaurants, exudes the idyllic luxury of a grand hacienda. But what really stands out is the staff. We merely mentioned at checkin that my birthday was coming up during our stay. When the day arrived, so did a fine bottle of champagne with chocolate-covered strawberries, compliments of the manager. The servers at the restaurants plied us with complimentary desserts and wine samples. The housekeeping staff were both cordial and competent. The bellmen were quick to offer directions and suggestions. Yet we never felt we were being worked for tips. This hotel simply has a very high service mind-set. Put it this way: It is a world away from Spain.
