Raincity Grill
Pacific Northwest Rules!
Of the many restaurant choices on the Westside's Denman Street, here is the one that combines the warmth of a neighbourhood favorite with casual elegance. This restaurant offers both a pleasant prospect of English Bay and innovative cuisine fashioned from the freshest of local ingredients.
We were well cared for from the moment we arrived. Although there we two tables immediately available in the cramped area adjacent to the front door, we were informed that a table near the windows overlooking the bay would soon be available if we chose to wait just a bit, which we did. Once seated, we made our selections from the ample wine list, a flight of BC Chardonnays from which we chose subsequent glasses to accompany the meal.
The appetizer salads feature local greens, herbs and edible flowers that are dilectable. "In Between" choices will attract those with lighter appetites, but the main courses are sumptuous more from creative variety than sheer volume. The halibut turned out to be tender cheeks grilled to perfection with an accompaniment of wild rice, while the free range chicken was served up with a pilaf of red wheat berries in a light herbal sauce. Two tasting menus are also offered with interesting selections and pairings. This delightful culinary experience will help us remember Vancouver fondly.
