Chambar
Euro-chic Atmosphere and Interesting Fare
Walk into the dimly lit bar at the the front of Chambar and you will get the idea that this is a happening gathering place. And it is. However, it is not where we wanted to be seated to enjoy our dinner. So, the hostess promptly discovered another table for two in the dining room. This room (pictured above) has brighter yet subtle lighting designed to highlight the changing displays of art in the walls. Flanking the room is a large window that allows in some natural light as well as an evening view of Vancouver's lower downtown. Needless to say, being able to read the menu followed by a seductively lit meal can only enhance the experience.
The service was unhurried and well-paced. And the food was superb. We shared an appetizer salad of green and white asparagus delightfully arranged. After two nights of fish, we were ready to have some meat, and Chambar delivered two excellent dishes with a Belgian flair: a tender lamb shank with Belgian endives and a spicy sauce; mouth-watering tournedoes of venison. We had wine, but the restaurant also has a diverse list of Belgian beers. We enjoyed the food, the staff and the crowd. Be sure to make a reservation.
